After takeoff from a runway at Edwards Air Force Base in Southern California, NASA’s MQ-9 Ikhana climbed to altitude during an instrument checkout flight in preparation for a deployment to Hawaii. The aircraft carried an optical imaging sensor and a maritime radar for the Hawaii flights. Remote operation from a command and control center was verified to enable future support of scientific missions in isolated geographical locations.May 29, 2014
