A BARREL balloon is launched over Halley station to float above Antarctica and observe magnetic fields. Balloon Array for Radiation-belt Relativistic Electron Losses (BARREL) is a balloon-based Mission of Opportunity to augment the measurements of NASA’s Van Allen Probes spacecraft. This is the second of two BARREL Antarctic balloon campaigns conducted in Austral summers of 2012/2013 and 2013/2014. Credit: NASA/BARREL
