SOFIA Undergoing Refitting In Germany

Jordan Golson at the Wired (7/3, 3.32M) Autopia blog profiles the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). It almost met its end earlier this year from budget cuts, but currently the House has provided funds to keep the observatory going. Currently, the modified Boeing 747 is in Germany for extensive maintenance and refitting, which Golson notes is the last step in NASA’s rollout of SOFIA.
