High Resolution Camera on NASA’s Chandra Resumes Operations

The High Resolution Camera (HRC) on NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory has returned to science observing after an issue with its power supply. On April 10, the HRC, one of Chandra’s X-ray detecting instruments, observed the host star of a recently discovered exoplanet system. This accomplishment followed months of efforts by the HRC instrument team and the Chandra flight and science operations teams to restore the HRC to service after it experienced a power supply interruption in February 2022. After the interruption, Chandra continued to observe with its other instruments, which are typically used for the majority of Chandra observations. Science and engineering data from the recent observation show the HRC is operating as expected. Future observations with the HRC are being planned and will continue to be closely monitored.
