The Time-Resolved Observations of Precipitation Structure and storm Intensity with a Constellation of Smallsats (TROPICS) mission was launched in May 2023, with imagery from the mission rapidly transitioned to operations at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) shortly thereafter. This rapid transition was facilitated by preparations undertaken over the past two years as a part of the TROPICS mission applications program led by Mission Applications Lead Patrick Duran (ST11 / SPoRT). Hurricane specialists at NHC used TROPICS imagery while forecasting Hurricane Tammy and are currently using the imagery to finalize their post-season tropical cyclone reports. NHC expects to make greater use of TROPICS data this hurricane season after the release of validated products. This information was gathered by Duran as part of a post-season TROPICS Applications follow-up with NHC requested by TROPICS Program Scientist Will McCarty, and has been relayed to NASA HQ to demonstrate the value of TROPICS in hurricane forecasting and anals.
