Mount Oyama, a volcano on the Japanese island of Miyakejima, has beenerupting sporadically since June of 2000. On February 22, 2001, the Sea-viewingWide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) captured a plume of ash rising into theair and drifting toward the Japanese mainland. Tokyo bay is located to thenorth of the erupting volcano.
